Residence 3
on water
This project began with a constraint — an interior defined by fixed gold elements, from lighting to wall finishes, that could not be altered. Rather than compete with these features, the approach was to recalibrate the space through the floor, introducing a material that could soften, balance, and bring cohesion.
Unable to find a suitable product off-the-shelf, we developed a custom four-colour Glandovey Axminster. The palette leans into soft whites and layered creams, creating a gentle counterpoint to the warmth of the gold without stripping the space of its richness. Subtle tonal variation gives the carpet depth and movement, allowing it to sit comfortably within the interior rather than feeling flat or overly neutral.
Woven in wool and installed wall to wall, the carpet delivers a continuous sense of quiet luxury — elegant, understated, and highly resolved. It tempers the intensity of the existing finishes while maintaining a sense of sophistication, proving that sometimes the most effective design move is not to add more, but to carefully rebalance what is already there.-
