CHRISTCHURCH

Pacific Radiology Group is one of New Zealand’s leading private healthcare providers, delivering advanced diagnostic imaging services across the country. Working closely with Totem Studio, Custom Carpets supplied carpet solutions for multiple Pacific Radiology facilities, including Christchurch, Timaru, Wakefield (Wellington), Rolleston, and Hamilton. Each project required a sensitive response to healthcare-specific demands while maintaining a consistent brand experience across locations.

DESIGN INTENT

Radiology environments present unique challenges. Patients often arrive feeling anxious or uncertain, and many facilities are constrained by technical requirements, limited natural light, or partially below-ground tenancies. The carpet solutions were selected and specified to support calm, intuitive interiors — contributing to spaces that feel reassuring, warm, and human rather than clinical. Across the projects, flooring plays a key role in softening interiors through texture, colour, and acoustic comfort. Subtle patterning and tonal variation help reduce the visual monotony often associated with healthcare settings, while supporting way finding and spatial clarity throughout waiting areas, corridors, and clinical circulation zones.

Outcome

The completed projects demonstrate how thoughtfully specified carpet can positively influence healthcare environments. Across multiple Pacific Radiology sites, the flooring contributes to spaces that feel calm, welcoming, and reassuring — supporting both patient wellbeing and staff performance. The collaboration highlights the role of bespoke and carefully considered carpet solutions in delivering high-quality, human-centred healthcare interiors throughout New Zealand.

  • Pacific Architecture

  • Working in close collaboration with Totem Studio, each carpet specification was carefully integrated into the broader interior architecture. Consideration was given to workflow efficiency, back-of-house and front-of-house circulation, and the emotional experience of patients moving through the space. Consistency across locations was balanced with site-specific responses, ensuring each facility felt both part of a unified brand and tailored to its local context.
