St George's Hospital

CHRISTCHURCH

St George’s Hospital is one of Christchurch’s leading private healthcare providers, with a history of expansion and redevelopment spanning several decades. The current $120 million redevelopment represents the third stage of comprehensive site improvements, encompassing three major new buildings housing theatres, wards, CSSD, and clinical services.Custom Carpets has partnered with Totem Studio Architects to provide tailored flooring solutions for these developments, delivering carpet that supports both the practical demands of healthcare and the comfort of patients, visitors, and staff.

DESIGN INTENT

Healthcare interiors must balance function with atmosphere. Flooring at St George’s Hospital was specified to withstand high foot traffic, hospital beds, and clinical equipment, while creating a calm and reassuring environment. The foyer features wool carpet tiles with a hand‑tufted rug installation, providing a visually striking and welcoming entry for visitors. Modular Inception carpet tiles throughout circulation and clinical spaces allow flexible layouts, zoning, and blending of colours and patterns to suit the functional and spatial requirements of each area. Subtle textures and neutral tones create a composed backdrop, enhancing spatial clarity and visual cohesion across patient, staff, and visitor areas.
