The Aotea Centre is one of Auckland’s most recognisable cultural landmarks, serving as the city’s premier performance arts and entertainment venue since the early 1990s. As part of a large-scale refurbishment and renewal, Custom Carpets supplied Woven Axminster carpet across key interior circulation and public areas, complementing a broader programme of architectural and building upgrades.

DESIGN INTENT

The project aimed to modernise the Aotea Centre while retaining its iconic character. Interiors required durable, high-performance flooring that could withstand heavy public traffic, support acoustic performance, and provide a welcoming, timeless backdrop for performances and events. The carpet design was chosen to harmonise with the Centre’s refined finishes, helping create a cohesive and high-quality environment for audiences, performers, and staff.

Outcome

The completed installation delivers a resilient, comfortable, and visually cohesive flooring solution that enhances the Aotea Centre’s interiors. By combining functional performance with a refined design, the carpet contributes to a welcoming, professional environment that supports the Centre’s ongoing role as New Zealand’s premier performance arts venue.
