St Paul's ANglican church

CHRISTCHURCH

As part of the earthquake restoration of St Paul’s Anglican Church, Custom Carpets NZ was engaged to supply a woven Axminster carpet that would respect the building’s heritage while supporting its renewed use as an active place of worship.

Design intent

An 80/20 Axminster construction was selected for its longevity, acoustic benefits, and traditional character. The carpet design applies a contemporary pattern language through a classic woven format, allowing it to complement the church’s architecture without competing with its historic fabric. The resulting design applies a contemporary pattern language through a traditional Axminster construction, allowing the carpet to sit quietly within the architecture while enhancing warmth, acoustics, and comfort. The project demonstrates how traditional woven carpet can be used as a sensitive, long-lasting solution in heritage settings, supporting restoration outcomes without compromising original character.
